Meghan Smith
Coach Meghan comes to us from Wheatland, WY. Before she moved to Sheridan in 2018, she spent time in Laramie, Cody and Aberdeen, SD. Her family also relocated to Sheridan and she loves being close to them. She enjoys using her free time to fix up the home she purchased in 2019, and now shares it with her boyfriend, 3 dogs, and 2 cats.
Volleyball Experience
• Meghan was a multi-sport athlete growing up. She competed on both the volleyball and basketball teams at Wheatland High School. However, she tells us “volleyball has always been my favorite.”
• She played club volleyball during her 4 years of High School. She served her team as both an outside hitter and opposite.
• Nowadays, you will still find her on the court. She plays in leagues and competes in tournaments periodically, and is excited to be on the court as a coach this season.
Why do I coach?
“I have a love for the sport and want to support and nurture my players' love for it as well. I believe that the lessons learned reach far beyond the court and I'd like to help these individuals grow.”
What do I look forward to teaching my team?
“I'm looking forward to helping the players identify their individual roles within the team, and also to encourage confidence both in themselves and each other through support and accountability.”
Why the philosophy of coaching "person first, athlete second" is important to me:
“This prioritizes caring about each other as equals compared to athletic ability and allows us to build relationships and principles that will last far beyond our athletic careers. This places an importance on who we are in this world rather than what we accomplish on the court.”
Other Tidbits
“Beyond playing sports, I'm an avid reader and love to crochet! I'm a huge Kansas Men's Basketball fan (rock chalk) and really enjoy spending time with family exploring all of the outdoor opportunities that Sheridan has to offer.”
