Maryn Raff
Volleyball Experience
• Coach Maryn has played volleyball for a total of 16 years now, and competitively for over a decade. At just 25 years old, that’s a lot of her life!
• During her High School career, she was a 6 rotation setter and lead her team in assists, aces from the serving line and as their captain and vocal leader. Her coaches never had to ask her to talk on the court as she stepped on the floor with passion and commitment every time.
• She tells us “I kicked a ball in a game at state volleyball and got the point because of it.😂”
• Maryn was being recruited to play in college, but chose to pursue other things during her college years.
• She is undefeated at the Annual Women’s Casper Open, where teams come from Montana, South Dakota, Colorado and Utah to compete. She has won first place with her team the last two years and has competed on the team as an outside hitter. We love a versatile queen.
• Maryn has coached private lessons in Utah and in Sheridan. These lessons have lead to young women improving in the sport and making the high school team when they had just started playing volleyball that year.
• She has been a huge part of Blacktooth from afar since the moment it started and is very excited to coach a team this season at the club she reps every single day.
Why do I coach?
“I coach because volleyball has brought so many good people, lessons, and skills into my life and I want to share that with others! I also love seeing kids grow in their skills, knowledge and love of the game.”
Coach Maryn was born and raised in Utah. She met her husband, Jake, playing volleyball and they were married in July of 2024. Her and her husband moved to Sheridan for the lifestyle it offers and “we thought it would be fun to live closer to Rach (sister), Jeff and Matt.” Coach Maryn is the office manager for the Sheridan Foster Parent Exchange non-profit here in town and is looking forward to her first season coaching at Blacktooth.
What do I look forward to teaching my team?
“I am excited to teach the kids how to have confidence in themselves and their ability to improve and learn in the sport and how that will transfer to real life situations.”
Why the philosophy of coaching "person first, athlete second" is important to me:
“I was taught growing up that if volleyball wasn’t making me a better person was it really worth it to devote time to? I learned so many good life skills from playing volleyball such as, hard work, mental toughness, team work, good self-esteem, and healthy pride. I also believe that volleyball can be a good release from hard things in life and if I can be a positive influence and a safe place for a kid that needs it that’s just as important as learning all the other things that will help them in their life.”
Other Tidbits
Maryn can do the best imitation air horn noise you’ve ever heard. She loves to sing and dance (“I legit have no shame really”) and she is a huge BYU football fan.
